Welcome to my portfolio
It never fails that after introductions, people ask what my major is. Then immediately after that they ask why in the world I chose education. My answer is always because the kids are amazing. I love to be in the classroom teaching, which I have decided after multiple classroom experiences. I have taught at my church for years and enjoy every minute of it. Last year I was even selected to lead the church service closing our week long Vacation Bible School and was complimented for weeks after. My experience is not limited to church activities. Outside of the 25 required hours for my first field experience, I have done over 230 hours of observation time at Marion Elementary School. In this 4K - Grade 6 building, I have had the opportunity to run an RtI, observe every grade level, teach two lessons, work with small groups and individual students, and assist the special education teacher. With this experience I am certain that education is my passion.
The technology course I took at Marian University has taught me a great deal about integrating technology into regular coursework in a format that will appeal to the digital natives in schools today. Many of the tools I have discovered are showcased in this portfolio, but as an overview we covered: social networking, cloud computing, online learning management systems, pod-casting SMART Boards, and Web 2.0 tools. I have already began to use what I learned in my coursework at Marian and in creating my lesson plans. For example, I do much of my work on Google Docs to share with others in collaboration on projects. Using technology in the classroom is becoming very natural for me and I am sure my students will benefit because of it. I hope you enjoy what you see in the following pages. If you'd like to contact me, my information is in the drop down menu under the HOME tab.
